Happy Holidays

Happy & Joyous Christmas to all of you and your loved ones!
New Year's Eve is just around the corner. I'm looking forward to a whole new year of possibilities. One of the things I have planned is a schedule for posting illustrations on this blog. My plan is to post at least two illustrations per week.
Hope you all have fun these holidays with your family and friends :)
Here's a little Xmas card from me:

Have a lovely day,
Andrea

September Creativity

Hi everyone!
I can't believe it's September already. The summer flew by so fast. I have so many things I want to draw and not enough time. I think it's time I start thinking about making a cloning machine (it's on my to-do list now).
I signed up again for a new class on Skillshare: The Basics of Painting with Watercolors led by Katie Rodgers. For the class project I have to illustrate shoes made out of different types of materials. For now I did three illustrations; two leather and one suede shoe. I'm looking forward to showing you a couple of illustrations I did recently in my next blog post. Until then check out my Instagram if you want to see my works in progress.

Shoe & Shoes

 Hi guys!
This will be a very short post from me because I'm going on a trip tomorrow, well actually today. I was supposed to go to sleep a couple of hours ago but, as usual, packing things took longer than I planned. I realize some time has past since the last post on this blog, but finally I have something new to show you :)
Hopefully I'll draw some new illustrations while I'm travelling, but since I won't be able to take my scanner with me you can follow me on Instagram (@gypsyballadsandy) and I'll post photos of anything I draw there.
As you can see I was a bit shoe obsessed...

Hope you have a lovely day wherever you are :)

Skillshare: Illustrating your favorite runway looks

Last week I finished my first online course on Skillshare taught by the talented Katie Rodgers: PaperFashion: Illustrating your favorite runway looks. After admiring her illustrations for a long time I was excited about the opportunity to learn from her. The course lasted for two weeks and has exceeded all my expectations. The first assignment was to create a mood board, then sketch our illustrations followed by watercolor and embellishments for the final sketch. I really can't find the words to describe how happy it made me to get a positive feedback from Katie. It was amazing to see so many beautiful projects, encounter talented people and be surrounded by creativity in such amounts that it made me feel motivated and inspired each day.

Here you can see sketches from my project:

I was excited about using glitter for my final sketch. After using it I can honestly say that I love glitter and the feeling is obviously mutual considering the fact that it’s still covering a lot of surfaces in my apartment.  I also ended up using nail decorations for one of my sketches. It was a lucky coincidence that earlier I saw a dress from Alexander McQueen’s collection I really liked and then the next day while I was in a store I saw decorations that would be perfect for imitating the texture of the dress. Eureka!

Yesterday I received one of the best news in my life. I got an e-mail saying that Katie left me a comment. I can’t describe how happy I was when I saw that Katie had chosen me as one of the two winners of her class. This is something I had hoped would happen but after seeing so many amazing projects, I really did not have high hopes of it coming true. So you can imagine my shock (that lasted for a couple of hours) when it happened! I even I thought it was an April 1st joke. It’s one of the biggest compliments I have ever received because it came from one of my top favorite fashion illustrators. I still feel like jumping up and down for joy!

If you want to see other projects you can go to Skillshare or check out #paperfashionshillshare on Instagram.

Thank you Katie and fellow classmates for such great two weeks!

Must have been a Think Pink moment

You know that feeling when inspiration catches you in her claws and then you start drawing and don't stop until you have finished. That happened with these two illustrations. Today it's just me because Tamara is too busy being lazy aka doing her day job. As soon as she manages to find time she'll post her new illustrations here. Until then you're stuck with me (cue evil laughter).

I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about my two pink ladies :)

Mesmerizing & Lily Cole

Today's illustrations are more graphic than the ones already published here.
Sometimes we enjoy the black & white, with just a touch of pink, style.
Keep calm and be creative :)

Andrej & Bridget

Hi everyone
This week we've been good little artists so we'll have a lot of new illustrations to publish soon.
One of the things that made us happy was Twitter's new Vine app. We were excited about the possibility of uploading videos of our illustrations during the creation process. After a couple of unsuccessful attempts we managed to upload an initial video and we were convinced there wouldn't be any more problems...
However, we were wrong...
After we made a couple of videos of the whole drawing process (that lasts at least a couple of hours) they wouldn't upload. For now we'll continue to try and make new videos (hopefully those will upload) and have patience if it doesn't work again or just take a sledgehammer on our phone and then we won't be tempted to press that damn try again button next to the video. If you have any desire to see if we'll succeed in our mission follow us on Vine - @GypsyBallads

Hello to you lost souls that wandered here by accident

We have two new illustrations to show you today, and we're completely certain that we'll manage to post things more often because it's a part of our New Year's resolutions and we all know those always work out ;)

New Beginnings

”Daydreaming” - by Andrea Perkov

It's the first day of 2013 so it seemed like the perfect time to publish our first post on this blog.
We should probably start by introducing ourselves; we're Tamara and Andrea and the whole purpose of this blog is that we have a place where we can publish our illustrations.
This has been on our to-do list for quite some time now and finally we can check it as 'done'.

“Simplicity” by Tamara Perković

“Touch” by Tamara Perković
”Feeling of tenderness” by Andrea Perkov
”Fall is coming” by Andrea Perkov
“Circus” by Tamara Perković
”Reflection” - by Tamara Perković

We think that the title of the last illustration describes perfectly how a lot of people, including two of us, will spend today; reflecting on the year before and enjoying all the new possibilities ahead.
Happy New Year! Perhaps it will sound as a cliche but we like the idea of a new beginning, the thought of leaving all the bad things in the past and starting anew. So no matter how your past year was we hope you'll make your dreams (
either old or new) a reality.

Keep calm and make arT
